AICTE SAMARTHAN: Internship Connect is a 30-day, on-campus internship run by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is meant for students with domicile of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and the North Eastern states. AICTE has signed MoUs with premier institutes — IITs, IIMs, IIITs, IISERs, NITs, NITTTRs, NIDs, NIFTs and IHMs — so selected students spend a month on one of these campuses.
During the internship you attend lecture sessions, get hands-on training, see the academic environment of these institutes, interact with their students, teachers and alumni, and visit their incubation and innovation centres.
Who it is for: undergraduate and postgraduate students from the states and UTs listed above, studying Engineering & Technology, Management, Design, Applied Arts and Crafts, BBA, BCA, or Hotel Management & Catering Technology in an AICTE-approved institution.
What you get: food and accommodation at the host institute are free. AICTE pays the host institute Rs. 500 per person per day for this. AICTE also reimburses your to-and-fro sleeper class rail fare (or bunk class ship fare) after you finish the internship. The guidelines do not mention any monthly stipend.
How to apply: your college's Training and Placement Officer (TPO) or nodal officer first registers on the SAMARTHAN portal with a nomination letter. AICTE verifies it. You then register on the portal with your personal, Aadhaar and academic details and your preferred institutes, and upload a bona-fide certificate. Your TPO authenticates your registration, and only then can you apply.

- Bonafide / No Objection Certificate from your college
- Printout of the PM-USPY allotment letter, if you are not studying in Jammu / Kashmir / Ladakh
- For travel reimbursement: completed and signed TA form, original travel tickets, internship completion certificate from the host institute, attested copy of the allotment letter
How you're selected
Only applications authenticated by the college nodal officer are considered. AICTE prepares two rank lists: for UG students based on UG and Class 12 scores, and for PG students based on PG and UG scores. If scores tie, the score of the immediately lower level is used (for example Class 10 marks if Class 12 marks are equal); if still tied, the older candidate by Aadhaar date of birth ranks higher. Seats are then allotted using the rank list, the student's institute preferences and the seats available at each institute. Allotment letters are emailed to students. A student who does not respond to the first-round allotment within the given time frame is rejected automatically and the seat goes to another student in the second round.

What is the last date? For the cycle shown in the official scheme guidelines, the portal opened on 12 May 2026, the last date for candidate registration and TPO verification was 25 May 2026, and the last date to choose institutes was 28 May 2026. Internships started from 15 June 2026. That cycle has closed. For the next cycle, check the official AICTE page and the SAMARTHAN portal for a fresh notification.
How do I apply? You cannot apply on your own first. Step 1: your college's TPO or nodal officer registers on the SAMARTHAN portal with a nomination letter. Step 2: AICTE verifies the nomination. Step 3: you register on the portal with your personal details, Aadhaar details, Class 10, Class 12, Diploma and Graduation marks, your preferred institutes and a bona-fide certificate. Step 4: your TPO authenticates your registration. Step 5: you apply for the internship. Only students authenticated by their nodal officer are considered.

Can I do this more than once? The guidelines say a student can take part in a maximum of two internships during their undergraduate programme and one internship during their postgraduate programme.
