Overview
The PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a Government of India programme run by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. It gives young people a 12-month internship in some of India's top companies, so you get real work experience before you start your career. The government's target is one crore (10 million) internships over five years.
Internships are offered across many sectors — IT and software, banking and financial services, oil, gas and energy, metals and mining, FMCG, telecom, infrastructure, retail, automotive, pharma, aviation and defence, manufacturing, media and education, agriculture, hospitality, healthcare and more. At least 6 months of the year must be spent in a real working environment, not in a classroom.
Who can apply: Indian citizens aged 21 to 24 (as on the last date to apply) who are not in full-time work or full-time study. Students in online or distance courses can apply. You need to have passed Class 10 or Class 12, or hold an ITI certificate, a Polytechnic diploma, or a degree like BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA or B.Pharma.
Who cannot apply: graduates of IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISERs, NIDs or IIITs; anyone with CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, PhD or a master's degree; and anyone whose family income (self, parents or spouse) was over ₹8 lakh in FY 2023-24, or whose family member is a permanent government employee.

How you're selected
You apply on the PMIS portal; companies shortlist candidates through the portal, which is designed to give fair representation to all segments including SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates. There are no formal reservation provisions. An internship offer does not create an employer-employee relationship and does not guarantee a job.
FAQs
Who can apply for the PM Internship Scheme? Indian citizens aged 21-24 years (as on the last date for submission), who are not in full-time employment or full-time education. You must have completed SSC (Class 10) or HSC (Class 12), or hold an ITI certificate, a Polytechnic diploma, or a degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA or B.Pharma.
How long is the internship? One year (12 months). At least half of it — 6 months — must be spent in an actual working/job environment rather than in a classroom.
How much stipend will I get? The official candidate FAQ document does not state the stipend amount, so we do not list a figure here. Please check the current amount on the official portal (pminternship.mca.gov.in) before you apply.
What is the last date to apply? PMIS runs in rounds and the official FAQ does not state a fixed yearly last date. Check the official portal for the round that is currently open and its closing date.
Who is NOT eligible? Graduates of IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs or IIITs; holders of CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, PhD or any master's degree; anyone whose family income (self, parents or spouse) crossed ₹8 lakh in FY 2023-24; anyone with a family member in permanent government service; and anyone already in a government skill/apprenticeship/training scheme or who has completed NATS/NAPS.
Can I apply if I am doing a distance or online course? Yes. Candidates enrolled in online, distance or correspondence learning programmes are eligible.
Will I get a job after the internship? No, the scheme does not guarantee a job. Companies may offer employment to interns who perform exceptionally, but an internship offer does not create an employer-employee relationship.
