Overview
The Chevening Scholarship is the UK Government's international scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. It pays for one year of study for a taught master's degree at a UK university. Indian citizens can apply.
It is meant for people who are already working and who show leadership ability. To be eligible you must be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country, hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master's course, and have at least two years of work experience (about 2,800 hours) gained after your undergraduate degree. You must apply to three different eligible UK master's courses and hold at least one unconditional offer by the stated date. You must also agree to return to your home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends. There is no upper age limit.
The award is fully funded. It covers tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, economy return flights, arrival and departure allowances, a travel top-up, and your UK visa cost.
Applications for the next cycle open on 4 August 2026 at 11:00 UTC and close on 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. You apply online through the Chevening India page. After the deadline, applications are checked, read by independent committees, shortlisted, and shortlisted candidates are interviewed. Results are announced from mid-June 2027.

How you're selected
Applications are first checked against the eligibility criteria. Eligible applications are then assessed by independent reading committees. British embassies and high commissions prepare a shortlist, and shortlisted candidates are interviewed by a panel at the British High Commission. Results are announced from mid-June, after which selected candidates must submit an unconditional UK university offer by the stated offer deadline.
