Overview
The Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Award (FNIEA) is run by USIEF, the United States-India Educational Foundation. It is not a student scholarship. It is for people who manage Indian colleges and universities.
Selected administrators travel to the United States for a two-week visit in April 2027. They learn how the U.S. higher education system works - types of institutions, accreditation, curriculum development, fundraising, student services and international education on U.S. campuses. Campus meetings also cover research collaborations, faculty and student exchanges, and study abroad. Participants share information about Indian higher education too.
Who it is for: mid to senior-level college or university administrators in India - vice-chancellors, deans, directors of international centres or offices, foreign student advisors, registrars and similar roles - with at least two years of experience in the relevant field. Employees of the Government of India and of State Governments (IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS and allied services, state civil services and ministry staff) are not eligible. Researchers and academics from CSIR, ICAR, ICGEB, DRDO, ISRO, ICMR, DBT institutions, DST laboratories, BARC, IISc and IITs can apply.
What you get: J-1 visa support, health cover for exchanges, round-trip economy air travel from India to the U.S., travel inside the U.S., lodging and a per diem.
How to apply: apply online on the Embark portal and upload the Project Statement, Institutional Statement, Detailed Essay, CV and Letter of Support from your institution. The last date is August 31, 2026, 23:59:59 hrs (IST).

How you're selected
Announcement on June 22, 2026. Applications close on August 31, 2026. A screening committee reviews applications in early October 2026 to shortlist candidates. USIEF informs applicants of the review outcome by mid-October 2026. Interviews of shortlisted candidates are held in mid-November 2026. USIEF notifies principal and alternate nominees at the end of November 2026. In early December 2026 the applications of recommended candidates are forwarded to the U.S. for approval and placement by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB). The program begins in early April 2027.
FAQs
Who can apply? Mid to senior-level administrators working at Indian colleges and universities - for example vice-chancellors, deans, directors of international centres or offices, foreign student advisors and registrars. You need at least two years of experience in the relevant field, responsibility for building the international side of your institution, demonstrated leadership, and a high level of academic or professional achievement. You must be an Indian citizen and must not hold or be applying for U.S. permanent residency.
Can students apply? No. This award is only for college and university administrators. Students should look at the other Fulbright-Nehru fellowships on the USIEF website.
How much money do I get? USIEF does not publish a cash amount. Instead the award covers J-1 visa support, an Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges as per U.S. Government guidelines, round-trip economy class air travel from India to the U.S., travel within the U.S., lodging and a per diem. Your family cannot travel with you on this award.
How long is the program? Two weeks in the U.S. in April 2027. The application instructions give tentative grant dates of April 11, 2027 to April 25, 2027.
What is the last date to apply? Monday, August 31, 2026, 23:59:59 hrs (IST). USIEF states that applications received after the deadline will NOT be considered and incomplete applications will be rejected.

Can I apply for more than one Fulbright-Nehru fellowship? No. USIEF states you can apply for only ONE Fulbright-Nehru fellowship category during a competition cycle.
