Overview
Ishan Uday is a scholarship from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for students from the North Eastern Region (NER) of India. It helps students from economically weaker families pay for their first undergraduate (UG) degree.
Each year, 10,000 scholarships are offered. The amount is ₹8,000 per month, paid for 10 months a year (₹80,000 in a year). Half the seats are kept for Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law and Management courses, and the other half for Science, Engineering, Technology, medical, technical, agriculture and forestry courses.
To apply, you must have passed Class 12 from a recognised school in a North Eastern state, hold a domicile (permanent resident) certificate of an NER state, and be admitted in the first year of a regular, full-time UG degree in an approved college in India. Your parents' income must be below ₹4.5 lakh per year. Distance, private, part-time and management-quota admissions are not eligible.
Selection is purely on merit, state-wise, based on Class 12 marks. You apply online only, on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in). The money is paid directly into your Aadhaar-linked bank account. The scholarship is renewed each year until you finish your first degree, if you keep good conduct and attendance.
