Overview
The Joint CSIR UGC-NET is a national exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). It decides which Indian nationals are eligible for the award of a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), for appointment as an Assistant Professor, and for admission to a Ph.D. programme in Indian universities and colleges.
The June 2026 cycle was announced by NTA in a public notice dated 27 May 2026. Online applications were open from 27 May 2026 to 19 June 2026 (up to 11:50 P.M.) on the official portal https://csirnet.nta.nic.in/. The fee had to be paid online by 20 June 2026, and a correction window was open on 22-23 June 2026.
The exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 180 minutes (3 hours). It was held on 17 and 18 July 2026 in two shifts (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.). Papers are set in English and Hindi in five subjects: Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematical Sciences; and Physical Sciences.
