Overview
The Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for the Ministry of Railways helps the children (wards) and widows of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel pay for higher studies. It is a merit-based scheme run by the Ministry of Railways and applied for through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Who is it for? You can apply if you are a ward of a serving or retired RPF/RPSF employee (below the rank of Gazetted Officer), or a widow of such an employee. You must have scored at least 60% in your last qualifying exam — Class 12, Diploma or Graduation — which the scheme calls the Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ).
What do you get? Selected students receive a monthly scholarship: ₹2,500 per month for male students and ₹3,000 per month for female students. A total of 150 scholarships are given each year, and half (75) are reserved for female students. The money is paid directly into the student's bank account. The benefit is limited to two wards per family.
How to apply? Register and apply online on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in) during the application window, then get your details verified by your institute.
