Overview
The Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) helps the children and widows of Ex-servicemen and Ex-Coast Guard personnel pay for higher technical and professional education. It is run by the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, and has been running since the 2006-07 academic year.
5,500 scholarships are given every academic year, divided equally between boys and girls — 2,750 each. The amount is ₹2,500 per month for boys and ₹3,000 per month for girls, paid to you annually. Money is paid for 2 to 5 years, depending on how long your course runs.
Who can apply: dependent wards or widows of Ex-servicemen and Ex-Coast Guard personnel. Wards of civilians, including paramilitary personnel, are not eligible. You must have taken admission in the first year in the current financial year — lateral entry students and students already in 2nd year or later cannot apply.
You need at least 60% marks in your Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ) — which is 10+2 for MBBS, 10+2 or a Diploma for BE/B.Tech, and graduation for B.Ed and MBA. All subjects count, including optional ones.
Apply online on the KSB portal at online.ksb.gov.in. A merit list is prepared using the priority categories (Category 1 to 6) and your MEQ marks, with separate lists for male and female students.
