Overview
The Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child is a University Grants Commission (UGC) fellowship for women who are the only girl child of their parents and are doing a PhD. It exists to encourage families to support higher research education for their daughter.
You are paid ₹37,000 per month as a Junior Research Fellow for the first 2 years, and then ₹42,000 per month as a Senior Research Fellow for the rest of your tenure. You also get a yearly contingency grant for books, travel and research: ₹10,000 for the first two years and ₹20,500 afterwards for humanities and social sciences, or ₹12,000 and then ₹25,000 for science scholars.
The fellowship continues until you submit your PhD thesis or for 5 years, whichever is earlier. You can apply if you are a single girl child pursuing a PhD in any stream or subject at a recognised university, college or institute.
