Overview
The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata gives a monthly stipend to students in its undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programmes. It is a merit-based scheme listed on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and linked to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The stipend is awarded when you join a programme and is paid for twelve months in each academic year. How much you get depends on your course: ₹5,000 per month for B.Stat/B.Math, ₹8,000 per month for M.Stat/M.Math/MS(QE)/MS(LIS)/MS(QMS), and ₹12,400 per month for the M.Tech programmes (CS, CrS, QR&OR). Students from the North-East doing the PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics get ₹3,000 per month. On top of this, full-stipend students receive an annual contingency grant of ₹3,000–₹8,000 for books, printing, travel to conferences and similar study costs.
The stipend is not fixed for the whole course. It continues each semester only if you meet the marks rules, keep at least 75% attendance and maintain good conduct; weak performance can halve or stop it. If you already hold another government scholarship, this stipend is discontinued.
